The new blotter: a primer

The Police Log is available to the public, free of charge, during Kirkland Police Department business hours Monday through Friday. A small number of the calls to police on a weekly basis are excerpted in the Kirkland Courier-Reporter. These summaries are prefaced by a brief synopsis describing significant numbers or important types of calls received.

The Police Log is available to the public, free of charge, during Kirkland Police Department business hours Monday through Friday. A small number of the calls to police on a weekly basis are excerpted in the Kirkland Courier-Reporter. These summaries are prefaced by a brief synopsis describing significant numbers or important types of calls received.

The Police Log is a record of calls received by police dispatchers that require immediate police action. These records are usually held for public review for seven days.

Not all calls are recorded in the log, and occasionally, information is blacked out. This to protect the identity of the reporting party, victim or a juvenile in certain types of crime such as rape, sexual assault or child abuse.

Police Blotter

Between Wednesday, April 2 and Tuesday, April 8 the Kirkland Police Department reported 250 traffic violations, 24 car accidents, 22 alarm calls, 12 domestic violence calls, 10 DUIs, 10 burglaries, seven thefts and five assaults. Fifty-one people were arrested.

Wednesday, April 2

3:34 p.m.: A passing motorist witnessed a young man indecently exposing himself near the intersection of N.E. 80th and 124th Streets. The man then ran away from the area towards N.E. 85th Street.

4:30 p.m.: A resident of the 9900 block of 124th Street alleged two juvenile males were smoking a controlled substance on a balcony of a nearby residence. The youths disappeared before police arrived.

Thursday, April 3

12:00 a.m.: A residence on the 11800 block of N.E. 131st Place was reportedly burglarized while the resident slept inside. He reported a number of goods inside the residence were missing, as well as his 2002 white Subaru Legacy outside. Police later recovered the stolen car. Both an estimate of losses and the identity of the suspect are unknown.

12:22 a.m.: A woman was assaulted on the 500 block of Central Way and sustained injuries. The victim was transported to Overlake Hospital and later taken to the UW Medical Center for treatment.

1:35 a.m.: Seven vehicles were allegedly damaged by two local men on the 12700 block of N.E. 124th St. as they left a business there.
