Rep. Luis Moscoso, D-Mountlake Terrace, who sits on the House Public Safety Committee, released the following statement in response to Thursday’s tragedy at Seattle Pacific University:

“I am very saddened and disturbed by the shooting at Seattle Pacific University yesterday. My heart goes out to the victims and the family of the shooter, all of whom are suffering from this tragedy.

This horrible occurrence strikes a personal note for me; the young man who committed this terrible act is from my hometown of Mountlake Terrace. I have worked on youth violence issues as both a legislator and a citizen, but yesterday is still a heartbreaking reminder that no community is immune to the far-reaching impacts of gun violence in our country.

It is critical that we as a society take action to address this issue, especially among our youth and in our schools. The events of yesterday must serve as a catalyst for us all to come together to find more effective measures to eliminate violence of this kind in our state.”

Moscoso represents north Kirkland residents from the 1st District.
