SR 520 weekend closure begins Friday

Drivers headed across Lake Washington this weekend should plan ahead for a closure of State Route 520.

The following is a release from the Washington State Department of Transportation:

Drivers headed across Lake Washington this weekend should plan ahead for a closure of State Route 520.

Beginning at 11 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, the Washington State Department of Transportation will shut down both directions of SR 520 across Lake Washington between 92nd Avenue Northeast and Interstate 5. All lanes and ramps will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23. To help fans get to Sunday’s Seahawks game, crews will reopen westbound SR 520 at 11 a.m. that day.

Contractor crews working on the West Approach Bridge North Project—part of WSDOT’s SR 520 Bridge Replacement and HOV Program—will use the closure to remove portions of the 24th Avenue East bridge over the highway, reconstruct a median between the eastbound on- and off-ramps at Montlake Boulevard, and pave and then stripe a new lane on the eastbound off-ramp to Montlake Boulevard. Other WSDOT and contractor crews will use the closure to make improvements along the SR 520 highway, including utility upgrades on the east side of the lake at the Evergreen Point Road transit station and near 84th Avenue Northeast, maintenance of tolling equipment, and maintenance repairs on the floating bridge and Portage Bay Bridge.
