Seaplane Scenics hearing pushed back to August

Seaplane operations at Carillon Point, it seems, won't go down without a fight.

Seaplane operations at Carillon Point, it seems, won’t go down without a fight.

Carillon Properties and Seaplane Scenics were scheduled to appear in front of the hearing examiner on July 7, but the date was postponed to allow an attorney to better prepare for the meeting.

Eric Shields, Director of Planning with the City of Kirkland, said the city typically tries to accommodate violators and applicants who wish to have an attorney present.

Carillon Properties received a notice of violation from the City of Kirkland on June 21, ordering seaplane tourism at the resort location to cease until proper permits were acquired.

The tourism flights had been operating for over a year without a permit.

Seaplanes continue to pick up passengers from the guest pier at Carillon Point, and can often be seen flying above Houghton Beach while lining up to land on Lake Washington.

Should the hearing examiner go along with the city’s recommendation, Seaplane Scenics and Carillon Point could be fined $100 per day of operation since the notice was served.

The fine could be as high as $4,500 by the time the August 4 meeting is held.
