Dave McDonald withdrew his candidacy for Position 2 of the Kirkland City Council last week, according to Kirkland Views.

Although McDonald is still listed as candidate for Position 2 against incumbent Councilwoman Shelley Kloba at the King County Elections webpage, McDonald sent an email to Kirkland Views announcing he “decided to withdraw from the campaign” and he “might consider to run at a later time.”

McDonald withdrew after the campaign withdrawal deadline. His name will show up on voter’s ballots despite his inactive campaign.

McDonald did not immediately return requests for comment.

Kloba informed the Reporter that she would no longer be running against another candidate.

“On one hand I’m happy to know I will be continuing in the second half of my term, but on the other, I’m also disappointed because I think it’s a better situation for the voters of Kirkland to have an option to hear a variety of issues debated and discussed,” said Kloba.
