The Washington State PTA announced the winners of the association’s statewide essay contest that challenged students to write about how their dad or other male role model has made a difference in their lives. Derek Martin, an 11th grader from International Community School, was selected as one of four grand prize winners. This essay contest was one component of Washington State PTA’s year-long program designed to educate and encourage male involvement in children’s lives. More than 400 students across the state participated in this contest. Each grand prize winner and his/her family viewed a Mariners game courtesy of the Seattle Mariners.
