LWSD students place at ‘Math is Cool’ state contest

Nearly 500 students from around the state competed in the Math Is Cool Masters contest at Moses Lake High School last month.

The fourth-grade through sixth-grade students qualified for the contest by participating in regional competitions. Teams are considered Division i if the grade level has more than 200 students or if student teams are selected based on academic achievement.

Several teams and individuals from the Lake Washington School District (LWSD) placed at the competition.

Team results:

1st: Samantha Smith Elementary, fifth grade division i

2nd: Elizabeth Blackwell Elementary, fourth grade division i

2nd: Inglewood Middle School, sixth grade division φ

3rd: Redmond Elementary, fourth grade division i

Individual results:

1st: Wilson Liu (Evergreen), sixth grade division i

2nd: Boya Zhang (Smith), fourth grade division i

2nd: Ethan Shota Ogushi (Thoreau), fourth grade division φ

3rd: Hongning Wang (Blackwell), fourth grade division i

3rd: Michael Sheng (Smith), fifth grade division i

3rd: Julia Zhang (Northstar), sixth grade division φ
