Learn about Kirkland’s past | Historian to give free tours of city’s oldest cemetary on Saturday

Kirkland historian Matt McCauley will give free guided tours of of the Kirkland Cemetery across the street from Lake Washington High School from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 4.

“Admission is free, donations accepted and those will be applied toward the purchase of markers for two prominent early Kirklanders whose graves are currently unmarked,” McCauley said.

The cemetery is Kirkland’s oldest park and in it rest many of Kirkland’s pioneers and veterans including the oldest vet fought in the Mexican/American War (1846) and another internee fought in the Civil War for both the Confederacy and the Union.

McCauley is the author of the book “A Look To The Past: Kirkland: From wilderness to high-tech – Kirkland history in 50 vignettes.”
