The following is a release from the Lake Washington Institute of Technology:
An online browse through Lake Washington Institute of Technology’s The Lion’s Pride is an adventure in student creativity. The writing, photography, music, art and video give new meaning to school work.
In the words of student Natasha Tucker, a photography student whose photo series includes a pink haired woman in a fanciful yellow and turquoise dress checking an automobile’s oil level (page 46), the work in this publication is where “the ordinary meets the extraordinary.”
From music from the band Crosswave (page 40) to a nursing assistant’s examination of height discrimination (page 80); from the astounding motion graphic video created for a course called Math for Designers (page 20) to a welder’s research and reflections on ADD/ADHD (page 101), this publication is full of surprising juxtapositions and creative thinking.
English Instructor Wes Mantooth is chair of the Lion’s Pride committee, a group of faculty, staff and students who review submitted work and plan other aspects of the magazine.
“I hope this magazine can contribute to increasing a sense of community among students, faculty and staff. For example, we hope to foster collaborative experiences such as having photography, video, or writing students visit and report on other programs.” he said. “Most importantly, the magazine gives readers a richer sense of our students’ lives both in and outside of school.”
