You can own a piece of Lake Washington High School history. As part of the special community event, “Farewell to Old LW,” a silent auction and memorabilia sale will raise money to purchase an electronic reader board for the new school, which will open to staff and students in September 2011.

The farewell event will formally bid adieu to the old building, which has been home to the Kang family since 1949. The event will run from 2-5 p.m. April 16 and will include tours of the old building.

During its more than 60 years in operation, many special items have accumulated. There won’t be room in the new building for all of these items while at the same time, some community members may be thrilled to have that homecoming banner or team photo to hang in their own home. The auction/sale will be held from 2:30-4:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. Cash and checks only will be accepted – no credit cards.

Among the items:

• Past team/club photos

• Homecoming banners and art

• School photos

• Student/Athletic recognition plaques

• Community/participation plaques

• Minor trophies

• Kang memorabilia

• Numerous miscellaneous items

The new Lake Washington High School building is currently under construction.
