Kirkland’s Malia Jurick receives WSU scholarships

Kirkland resident Malia Jurick was awarded a $1,500 Washington State Broadcasters Scholarship, $1,500 Katie Knapp Whitworth Class of 1940 Scholarship

Kirkland resident Malia Jurick was awarded a $1,500 Washington State Broadcasters Scholarship, $1,500 Katie Knapp Whitworth Class of 1940 Scholarship and $500 Beatrice L. Fry Memorial Scholarship from The Edward R. Murrow College of Communication at Washington State University.

The Washington State Broadcasters Scholarship is awarded to students in good academic standing with demonstrated financial need. Preference for the award is given to students who are involved in broadcast related extracurricular activities.

The Katie Knapp Whitworth Class of 1940 Scholarship is awarded to communication majors based on academic performance, career potential or need.

Students receiving the Beatrice L. Fry Memorial Scholarship must be pursuing a degree in communication and demonstrate dependability, integrity and willingness to work above and beyond what is expected of them.

Jurick graduated from Juanita High School in 2009 and plans to graduate from WSU in May 2013 with a degree in communication. She is a member of Cable 8 Productions and producer of “Get Lucky in Pullman.” Jurick is also a coach for the Palouse Thunder Gals semi-pro cheerleading team.

She is the daughter of Sandra and Thomas Jurick of Kirkland.
