Kirkland Wednesday Market to return to Marina Park waterfront

After two years on Park Lane, the Kirkland Wednesday Market will return to Marina Park to serve its 2013 season.

After two years on Park Lane, the Kirkland Wednesday Market will return to Marina Park to serve its 2013 season.

“[Marina Park] can accommodate about 20 more vendors,” said market manager Jeni O’Neal, adding that there will be 58 vendors throughout the summer. “We’re really excited.”

The new location is expected to bring a bigger crowd to the farmers market.

Although O’Neal could not estimate just how many more people are expected to attend the market throughout the summer, she said the Park Lane location drew about 2,000 to 4,000 visitors daily, with 40 vendors.

“We’re definitely expecting those numbers to increase,” O’Neal added.

A new food truck called Falafel Salam will join Buns, a food truck selling burgers, to add flavor to the 37 other food-related vendors.

The Kirkland Wednesday Market will focus on delivering a “food experience” at the park this year, according to O’Neal.

The market will host returning vendors, such as Veraci Pizza and Steel Wheel, who were at Marina Park prior but left when the market relocated to Park Lane.

“We just really want to support our local farmers while bringing fresh healthy produce to the Kirkland residents,” said O’Neal.

But new craft vendors such as Mindzeye Fused Glass, Navarro Jewelry and SB Design (that specializes in hand painted silk scarves), will also have a significant presence at the market.

Story time for the children will be every other week and the Humane Society plans to host a pet adoption event.

O’Neal said the market wouldn’t be possible without the support of EvergreenHealth Medical Center, the market’s main sponsor.

The Kirkland Wednesday Market will run from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. every Wednesday between June 5 and Sept. 25.
