The City of Kirkland seeks applicants for its Lodging Tax Advisory Committee (LTAC). Organizations involved in activities authorized to be funded by lodging tax revenue are invited to propose representatives for appointment to the committee.

The LTAC advises the council on allocating the lodging excise tax fund for tourism and is comprised of seven voting members. Applications are available at the information counter at City Hall, 123 Fifth Avenue; by telephone at 425-587-3190; or on the city’s Web site at www.ci.kirkland.wa.us. Applications may be submitted via mail to City Hall, e-mail to kanderson@ci.kirkland.wa.us or fax 425-587-3198 by 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 27.

State statute establishes the specific makeup of the committee. The LTAC consists of one member of the Kirkland City Council, who serves as chair, three representatives of organizations representing businesses required to collect the lodging tax, and three representatives of organizations involved in activities that are eligible for lodging tax funding or local agencies involved in tourism promotion. The council reviews membership terms of the LTAC annually.

Beginning in 2002, a 1 percent excise tax has been collected on charges for lodging and motel room fees. The “lodging tax” funds tourism promotion and acquisition or operation of tourism related facilities. For more information on LTAC, go to www.ci.kirkland.wa.us/cmo (Select: Tourism Program).
