Eighteen young women from the Lake Washington School District were honored as Science, Technology, and Math Scholars by the Kirkland-Redmond Branch of the American Association of University Women at an April 23 presentation at the LWSD Resource Center. The local schools nominated the young women, all juniors, and then Kirkland-Redmond assiciation members invited them to celebrate their achievements. The event included certificates of honor, small gifts, and hearing Chelsea Peterson, an associate scientist at Intellectual Ventures Lab, speak on her science career experiences. Organizer, Peggy Ostrander, noted that parents and teachers in attendance were also congratulated for helping these young women succeed and pursue their dreams.
