The blotter feature is both a description of a small selection of police incidents and a statistical round-up of all calls to the Kirkland Police Department that are dispatched to on-duty police officers. The Kirkland Reporter Police Blotter is not intended to be representative of all police calls originating in Kirkland, which average about 800 per week.
Between Jan. 21-27 the Kirkland Police Department reported 634 traffic violations (seven DUIs), 19 traffic accidents, 11 noise complaints, six thefts, five domestic violence calls, 19 alarm calls, nine car prowls, 11 cases of civil disturbances, six burglaries, 11 disturbances, nine cases of fraud and five harassment calls. At least 28 people were arrested.
Jan. 25
Illegal substance: 5:51 p.m., 11300 N.E. 124th Street. A 47-year-old Kirkland man was stopped for expired registration. During the stop a strong odor of marijuana was coming from inside the vehicle. He initially denied being in possession but eventually admitted it. The man initially resisted arrest and was tased.
Informational report: 7 p.m., 9500 block of 130th Ave. N.E. A 36-year-old Kirkland man called to report a 58-year-old Kirkland man acting suspiciously in front of Mark Twain Elementary who was accompanied by large signs that said “Get out of Afghanistan” and “No war.” The 36 year old pulled over to ask the man why he was yelling at passing cars. The man quickly grabbed a garden gnome to defend himself thinking that the 36 year old was going to confront him. The 36 year old backed away to a safe distance and called police.
Jan. 24
Warrant arrest: 9 p.m., 11200 N.E. 124th Street. A 25-year-old Kirkland man was arrested in the QFC parking lot on multiple warrants.
Burglary: 5 a.m., 10500 block of 115th Place N.E. A 58-year-old Kirkland man called police to report a burglary at his residence. Among the items stolen were a 55-inch Sony LCD TV, a coin collection and a stainless Ruger .357 revolver. The entry point was a ground floor rear window that was forced open. The man was unable to provide the serial numbers for any of the items and the revolver was not registered to him.
Burglary: 5:45 p.m., 12000 block of 130th Lane N.E. An apartment complex was broken into with damage to the front door estimated at $300. The suspect stole a Beretta handgun from the victim’s bedroom. Nothing else was taken.
DUI: 11:46 a.m., 11800 block of N.E. 85th Street. A 28-year-old Lynnwood man was found asleep behind the wheel of his vehicle while at the gas pump. According to the reporting party, he had been there for more than an hour asleep and she could not wake him up. Upon contact the officer noticed that the man was asleep with his foot on the brake, the car turned on and in drive. After several attempts to wake him, he finally arose and exhibited several factors of being under the influence. The man was transported to Evergreen Hospital and eventually arrested.
Jan. 23
Assault: 12:15 a.m., 100 block of Kirkland Ave. A 24-year-old Gig Harbor man threw a beer in the face of a 25-year-old Federal Way woman and a 25-year-old Auburn woman began calling her “nasty” names. The Federal Way woman punched the Auburn woman in the face. All three were arrested.
Jan. 21
Minor, liquor violation: 11:56 p.m., 106 Kirkland Ave. A 19-year-old Everett man was contacted inside Tiki Joe’s where he was using an ID issued to another person. The man admitted to consuming alcohol and was arrest.
