The following is from a release provided by the Lake Washington School District:
Students from seven middle schools around the district competed in the district’s first ever middle school “Battle of the Books” event on March 3.
This year’s competition was tied after the regular competition and went into a tie-breaker question. Kirkland Middle School’s “Bloodthirsty Brainiacs” won the event, besting the second place team, the “Purple Bouncy Bananas” from Inglewood Middle School, on that final question.
Students worked within their school teams of four to six students each to answer a variety of questions about the 12 books they read this fall and winter.
Each team competing at the district level won a school level competition before they moved on to the district event.
Each team had a different approach to the competition. For some teams, each person on the team read all 12 books, while other teams split up the books among them. Some students read each book multiple times. The event questions focused on specific details in each of the books.
