The public is invited to join city leaders and elected officials to celebrate the completion of King County’s pump station in downtown Kirkland.

A ribbon cutting ceremony followed by guided tours will take place from 2-4 p.m. on May 13 at King County’s Kirkland Pump Station, corner of Third Street and Park Lane in Kirkland.

King County began construction on the $20 million pump station upgrade project in 2011 to ensure safe, reliable wastewater operations for the City of Kirkland’s growing population. The new, larger capacity pump station will meet current seismic codes, operate more quietly and efficiently, and employ state-of-the-art odor control. The project was completed several months ahead of schedule in spring 2014.

In addition to the pump station upgrades, King County’s project entails architectural upgrades, public art, new landscaping and sidewalks and improvements that support the city of Kirkland’s plans for a flexible street design on Park Lane.

King County’s Kirkland Pump Station has been serving the city for more than 40 years, collecting wastewater and conveying it to South Treatment Plant in Renton.
