Kirkland historian to give free tours of city’s oldest park

Kirkland historian Matt McCauley will give free guided tours of of the Kirkland Cemetery across the street from Lake Washington High School from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday.

Kirkland historian Matt McCauley will give free guided tours of of the Kirkland Cemetery across the street from Lake Washington High School from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday.

The event is free to the public with a donation to the Kirkland Historical Society.

The cemetery is Kirkland’s oldest park and in it rest many of Kirkland’s pioneers and veterans including the oldest vet fought in the Mexican/American War (1846) and another internee fought in the Civil War for both the Confederacy and the Union.

McCauley is the author of the book A Look To The Past: Kirkland: From wilderness to high-tech – Kirkland history in 50 vignettes.”
