Firefighters from the Kirkland Fire Department participated in the Scott Firefighter Stairclimb on March 8 to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. They joined others from around the world in climbing the Columbia Tower, 69 floors, in full bunker gear and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) gear.
Top team fundraiser was fundraiser Steve Suyama, who raised over $3600. The team total as of today is just over $20,000. They expect to have 22,000 by the end of the month The fastest Kirkland team time was Jon Hernandez at 15 minutes and seven seconds.
The climb had 1,900 firefighter participate including six from Chile and 10 from New Zealand. All of them raised over 1.8 million
Their team honoree was Madeline Herman who is a kindergartner at Lakeview. She was able to come to the climb and see it in action including at the finish.
