The Kirkland Fire Department helped to extinguish a house fire Wednesday morning.

The Kirkland Fire Department helped two other departments to extinguish a house fire Wednesday morning in Redmond.

Fire departments from Kirkland, Redmond and Woodinville presponded to a house fire at 5:43 a.m. Wednesday in the 9700 block of 164th Avenue Northeast in Redmond.

The fire started in the house’s basement, though how the fire was started has yet to be determined.

“They’re still investigating,” said Anne Marie Peacock, communications specialist for the city.

Peacock said an 85-year-old man lives in the home by himself and he was able to get out of the house uninjured and call 911 after he heard his smoke alarm.

Peacock said there was less than 50 percent damage to the house and it took crews from RFD, as well as the Kirkland and Woodinville fire departments, about half an hour to put out the fire.
