Kirkland Council seeks qualified applicants for Position No. 2 vacancy

The Kirkland City Council decided at its meeting on Tuesday to accept applications for council Position No. 2, which was vacated on March 25 by the resignation of Bob Sternoff.

The Kirkland City Council decided at its meeting on Tuesday to accept applications for council Position No. 2, which was vacated on March 25 by the resignation of Bob Sternoff.

Interested and qualified persons will be required to complete an application. To be eligible, applicants must have lived in Kirkland city limits for 12 months prior to the Primary Election date of Aug. 6, 2013 and must be a King County registered voter. The application form is available at Kirkland City Hall and can be downloaded from the city’s website at www.kirklandwa.gov.

The City Clerk must receive the application form either in person or via email (kanderson@kirklandwa.gov) by  5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, not postmarked.

On Monday, April 15, the council will hold a special meeting in the Peter Kirk Room tentatively scheduled for 6 p.m. to review the applications, finalize interview questions, and to determine the candidates to be interviewed.

Interviews will be conducted on April 16 during a special meeting to begin at 4:30 p.m., with the council scheduled to make the appointment during the regular council meeting on April 16, by a majority vote of the remaining council members. All council meetings will be held at Kirkland City Hall, 123 Fifth Ave., Kirkland.

The appointed council member for Position No. 2 will be required to take the oath of office prior to assuming his/her duties on May 7.

The appointed council member will serve until the King County Elections Office certifies the 2013 November election. If the person appointed by the council for Position No. 2 stands for election and wins, he/she will continue to serve. If another person is elected to the fill the vacancy, the person elected will take office when King County Elections certifies the election and would serve through Dec. 31, 2015 which is the remainder of the unexpired term.
