Kirkland’s 85th Street improvements’ contractor installed more than 360 feet of water main since Monday night. Johansen Excavating’s crews have installed 800 feet of water main since they began installing the 24-inch pipe near the Interstate 405 overpass on Sept. 15.
Johansen officials expect to reach the intersection with 120th Avenue Northeast by the end of this week and to reach 132nd Avenue Northeast—the water main’s east end—by December. Kirkland’s contractor expects to connect the water main to the service lines and to test it in January.
Starting in January, the contractor will begin a series of other corridor improvements, such as building the street’s new curbs, gutters and sidewalks, as well as repairing and replacing its storm drain system. The project will also add an east-bound turn lane to 132nd Avenue Northeast and upgrade traffic signals to include Intelligent Transportation Technology.
Johansen Excavating is on track to finish the entire project by the end of next summer.
In mid-summer 2015, the city will have contracted with an asphalt overlay contractor to provide an all new asphalt surface with that work expected to be complete by fall 2015.
