A Kirkland roof cleaning company was last week named on a quarterly Washington State Department of Ecology list of companies fined more than $1,000 for breaking pollution laws.

Moss Doctors, a Kirkland-based company that specializing in roof cleaning and maintenance, was penalized $2,500 for discharging 10 gallons of Cedartone Universal Colorant and other materials into a parking lot storm drain on Jan. 1. A Department of Ecology news release said Moss Doctors failed to report the spill and conducted an inadequate cleanup, placing kitty litter over the spilled liquids, but not removing them.

The quarterly list reflects violations from January, February and March of this year. A full list of violations is available at www.ecy.wa.gov/news/2008news/2008-131.html.

The penalty money Ecology collects goes into either the state’s general fund or to a special account dedicated to environmentally friendly community projects.
