The Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) in Kirkland is launching three new summer camps and programs designed for kids and adults: Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) Camps, Game in a Month, and Fast Track Academics.

STEAM Camps are offered in a week-by-week, full-day format through July and August. STEAM Camp options are high school girls only, coed for high school, and a one-week option with an “Our Planet” theme for middle school students. All STEAM Camps are led by LWTech college faculty. Participants can also earn college credits for all camps, depending on the duration attended, with the exception of STEAM Camp for middle school students. Camps include scientific field trips, free lab coats and lunches.

“Our new summer camps are a unique extension of our traditional academic programs and classes, and are taught by expert and friendly LWTech faculty,” said LWTech President Dr. Amy Goings. “By adding the for-credit option for high school students and adults, these summer camps can move students even closer to earning a college certificate or degree.”

For those interested in other summer programs, LWTech has “Game in a Month” and Fast Track. “Game in a Month” is for ages 14 and over (and at least a first-year student in high school) who want to design their own digital game in only four weeks. Only basic computer skills are required for this entry-level class. High school and college students can earn four college credits.

Fast Track is for students who want to earn transferable academic college credits in four weeks through hybrid classes, which are part in-class and part online. Students starting college in the fall, or those who want to take classes over the summer and transfer them to their school, can take English, math, and psychology classes.

The classes are all part of the Washington First Year Transfer List, meaning they will transfer as general education requirements at any other public and most private higher education institutions in the state. (Many private non-profit colleges and universities have distinct general education requirements. Students should check with institution(s) they plan to attend regarding application of transfer credits that will meet general education requirements.) There are also two communication classes offered in public speaking and interpersonal communication that belong to the state Common Course system, which are transferable to most public institutions in Washington state, and meet the LWTech Humanities requirement.
