Kirkland City officials unveiled “Welcome to the Cross Kirkland Corridor” signs at the north and south end of the corridor during a special dedication event on Saturday.
King County officials and local legislators were also on hand to celebrate the event, which ended with a reception at Google, where Kirkland Mayor Joan McBRide present Port of Seattle officials with a ceremonial check for $5 million.
The ceremony marked the city’s purchase of the 5.75-mile Cross Kirkland Corridor from the Port of Seattle, which was finalized on April 13.
Purchase of the segment ensures that the land will stay in public ownership and all future decisions about developing this corridor will be made by Kirkland residents and elected officials.
