With significant help from the community, King County Parks has a new management plan for the popular trails system at Big Finn Hill Park in Kirkland. Now King County Parks is looking for individuals to help put the plan into action.
King County is assembling a “Friends of Big Finn Hill Trails” group of 10 to 15 community members to help Parks organize and publicize the various volunteer projects needed to make the trail and site improvements outlined in the plan a reality on the ground.
Prospective participants are encouraged to join King County Parks for an informational meeting from 7-9 p.m. on April 23 at Finn Hill Middle School, 8040 NE 132nd St. in Kirkland. Parks expects to meet monthly with the newly formed group for first few months, and then quarterly.

While the eastern portion of the 220-acre King County park features ball fields and play equipment, the western portion of Big Finn Hill Park has remained forested and includes a popular trails network that connects to the popular Saint Edward State Park.
In an effort to ensure the long-term sustainability of the trails, the plan calls for installing signage, improving trail drainage, eliminating hazardous obstacles, and rebuilding jumps and other mountain bike-specific features. Additionally, the plan calls for some trails to be rerouted to make the park more enjoyable for all types of users.
