King County Executive Dow Constantine released a statement late Friday night on the Machinists’ vote to approve a new contract with Boeing.

The machinists approved the new contract to build the new 777x airplane by 51 percent on Friday night. The new contract could be worth up to 20,000 jobs for the Puget Sound region and more than $20 billion for the local economy.

Constantine: “Boeing workers build the best airplanes in the world. Tonight they have made the difficult decision to sacrifice in order to help ensure that the Puget Sound region will be home to the 777X, including the composite wing technology that will enable us to keep leading the world in advanced manufacturing.

“Aerospace has provided generations of family-wage jobs that are the foundation of this region’s stability and prosperity. This agreement between Boeing and its machinists means that legacy will continue into the future.”
