The blotter feature is both a description of a small selection of police incidents and a statistical round-up of all calls to the Kirkland Police Department that are dispatched to on-duty police officers. The Kirkland Reporter Police Blotter is not intended to be representative of all police calls originating in Kirkland, which average about 800 per week.

Between April 7-13, the Kirkland Police Department reported 327 traffic violations (at least three DUIs), 13 alarm calls, 11 car accidents, two burglaries, nine noise complaints, nine thefts, 10 car prowls, seven calls for malicious mischief, four domestic violence calls, four acts of fraud, 10 calls of a disturbance, five illegal substance, three assaults and six calls of harassment. At least 24 people were arrested.

April 11

Weapons violation: 1:20 a.m., 8544 122nd Ave. N.E. A man exited the passenger side of a 2007 Toyota Prius and attempted to enter Valhalla just prior to the bar closing. The male was denied entry, which caused him to get upset. The male demanded respect and flashed a black semi automatic handgun that was in a dark molded paddle holster. Two bouncers witnessed the brandishing. The male got back into the car and sped away. The male was wearing a hat, jacket and had thin facial hair.

Theft: 3:10 p.m., 11224 N.E. 124th Street. A suspect was arrested for disorderly conduct and shoplifting alcohol at the Totem Lake QFC.

Theft: 3:51 p.m., 8629 120th Ave. N.E. A 23-year-old Vashon man was arrested after he was stopped at the Costco exit by loss prevention after trying to conceal a $200 digital camera down his pants. The man was initially cooperative, but when loss prevention refused to allow him to simply give the camera back, he attempted to run away. He was eventually taken down to the ground and detained before KPD arrived.

Death investigation: 4:04 p.m., 11700 block of N.E. 130th Place. A maintenance man did a welfare check on a 51-year-old Kirkland man and found him dead in his apartment. Kirkland fire, police and the King County Medical Examiner responded to the call. King County Animal Control took custody of the victim’s cat.

Theft: 5:01 p.m., 111 Central Way. A 34-year-old Tacoma man was arrested at the Wild Rover Irish Pub after failing to pay his bar tab.

Traffic offense: 9:45 p.m., 12600 N.E. 118th Street. A 22-year-old Bellevue man was arrested for driving with a suspended license and refusal to cooperate after he was seen leaving the scene of a disturbance at Totem Firs. The man initially stated that he was someone else. He was also charged with providing false information.

April 10

Warrant arrest: 1:32 a.m., 15 Lake Street. A 29-year-old man was contacted and arrested on warrants.

Minor, liquor violation: 4:45 p.m., 2000 Market Street. A 16-year-old juvenile was arrested for intoxication and provided a blood alcohol content of .067.

April 9

DUI: 1:42 a.m., 104 Central Way. A 21-year-old Kirkland female was arrested for DUI.

Illegal substance: 11 a.m., 11700 block of N.E. 80th Street. Four juveniles left school for lunch and to smoke some marijuana in the tree line adjacent to the school property. All four were caught and arrested.

April 8

Domestic: 10:30 p.m., 12010 120th Place N.E. A woman was assaulted by her husband outside of Motel 6 after the two had an argument. The man fled the scene and the woman was cleared by aid for the injury to her face and released.

Burglary: 3 p.m., 1200 block of 14th Ave. A 38-year-old Kirkland man was taken into custody for malicious mischief after he kicked the door in of his mother’s rental unit to secure the power for a non-existent power problem. The man was non-compliant and slightly combative during the investigation.

April 7

Illegal substance: 10:06 p.m., 12900 116th Way N.E. An 18-year-old female and a male friend were contacted at the North Park and Ride smoking marijuana. The female was cited at the scene and was processed through the investigation and picked up by her mother.
