Highlights of Kirkland’s historic and modern architecture will be featured from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday on the Kirkland Home Tour.

To incorporate both types of properties, the theme for the tour is “Now and Then.”

The “Now” part, according to a press release, will feature the new built-green Farmhouse Cottages at Juanita; Arete, a LEED platinum-certified property on the site of the former Crab Cracker restaurant; and a new built-green home by John Buchan.

The “Then” part includes the historic Marsh Mansion; a 1930s log home on Lake Washington; a completely refurbished log home that was moved from Market Street; and one of the original 1889 homes built by Peter Kirk’s Kirkland Land & Improvement Company for an employee.

The event is being organized by Sue Contreras, a longtime Kirkland resident.

“We haven’t done a home tour in Kirkland in forever,” she said of why she wanted to put together the event.

Advance tickets are $25 and can be purchased online at brownpapertickets.com/event/2585511. Tickets will cost $30 on the day of the tour. Sales will benefit the Kirkland Performance Center and the Kirkland Hertiage Society.

According to the event website, free shuttles for the tour will be available at the parking lot at 5808 Lake Washington Blvd. NE, across the street from Houghton Beach Park. Ticketholders are directed to pick up their wristbands and guides at that location as well, Contreras said.
