Hit-and-run suspect surrenders in fatal 405 incident

A 30-year-old Bellevue man turned himself into police Monday morning after reportedly hitting and killing a man on Interstate 405 through Kirkland.

Sankha Biswas, who is originally from India and has only been in the United States for two years, turned himself in at the Snohomish County Sheriff’s south precinct office in Mill Creek after talking with a friend.

The incident took place early Sunday morning as the pedestrian attempted to cross the southbound lanes of Interstate 405 near the 124th Street off-ramp just before 2 a.m. The rented Kia Spectra that struck the man kept driving.

A witness followed the Kia Spectra and took down the license-plate number and contacted police.

According to KOMONEWS.com, the rental car business refused to release the name of the driver and a judge had to issue a subpoena. That motion did not take effect until after the man turned himself in.

The man was released by police while prosecutors decide whether to press any charges.
