Although its efforts tend to focus more on education and confiscation than fines, the Kirkland Police Department will be on the lookout for people setting off fireworks now through the Independence Day weekend as it enforces a city-imposed ban. Per city code, it is illegal to sell, possess or discharge (with the exception of a permitted public display) fireworks within city limits.

The ban was enacted in 1998 and went into effect in 1999.

A fireworks show planned for the Kirkland 4th of July celebration is permitted through King County. For more information on the event, visit www.celebratekirkland.org.
