As a pilot project to mitigate anticipated traffic impacts and congestion from the Classic Car Show and Kirkland Uncorked events being held on Sunday, July 18, parking fees will be instituted at the Peter Kirk Municipal Garage. A parking fee of $5 will allow for unlimited parking during the day. Pay parking will be in effect from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The garage is located at the corner of Third Street and Kirkland Avenue and is owned and operated by the City of Kirkland. Parking control personnel will be on site the day of the event to accept fees and direct traffic. Due to construction of the Kirkland Transit Center, access to the garage is only available from Kirkland Avenue (Kirkland Library). In June, the city’s Parking Advisory Board proposed to the Kirkland City Council that pay parking be instituted for these events as a pilot project and be managed by a professional parking operator. At its July 6 meeting, the council approved the pilot project and requested a follow up report.
The Classic Car Show, sponsored by the Legends Car Club (www.legendscarclub.net) and supported by Kirkland Downtown Association, will be located on Lake Street, at the Lake Street and Central Avenue parking lot, the Park Lane and Main Street parking lot and on several downtown streets in the Central Business District.
Kirkland Uncorked (www.kirklanduncorked.com), produced by Bold Hat Productions, occurs Friday, July 16 (5-10 p.m.), Saturday, July 17 (1-10 p.m.) and Sunday, July 18 (1-6 p.m.) at Marina Park.
