Drunk driver enters I-405 wrong way, collides with exiting traffic | Kirkland Police Blotter

DUI: 12:05 a.m., 11400 N.E. 68th Street. A 30-year-old man was arrested for DUI after attempting to enter I-405 using the off ramp from N.E. 70th Street. The driver attempted a U-turn but collided with exiting traffic before finishing the maneuver. The man submitted a .087 blood alcohol content.

The blotter feature is both a description of a small selection of police incidents and a statistical round-up of all calls to the Kirkland Police Department that are dispatched to on-duty police officers. The Kirkland Reporter Police Blotter is not intended to be representative of all police calls originating in Kirkland, which average about 800 per week.

Between June 30 to July 6, the Kirkland Police Department reported 572 traffic violations (eight DUIs), 13 traffic accidents, 16 noise complaints, nine thefts, 11 domestic violence calls, 22 alarms, seven motor vehicle prowls, three burglaries, 13 disturbances, seven cases of fraud, nine harassment calls, 11 civil issues and four animal control calls. At least 59 people were arrested.

July 5

Minor, liquor violation: 2:20 a.m., 12000 block of Slater Ave. N.E. Six Kirkland youth and one 20-year-old man were all contacted in the Evergreen Villa complex next to Building A in reference to a noise complaint. Upon the officer’s approach all seven fled on foot, but did not get far and were all subsequently arrested for minors in possession.

Domestic: 1:19 p.m., 12500 block of N.E. 65th St. A husband and wife got into an argument, which eventually turned into a physical altercation. The wife slapped her husband in the face and he received scratch marks to his face. The wife was arrested for assault.

July 3

Domestic: 10:45 p.m., 10400 block of N.E. 116th St. A 40-year-old Kirkland woman called police after getting into an argument with her husband for telling him that she had talked to a divorce attorney. Both had been drinking and the conversation reportedly went down hill from there. Upon officer’s arrival one of them admitted to breaking the lock on the bathroom door and both admitted to pushing each other during the heated argument. There were no injuries and the case was taken for documentation. No one was arrested.

July 2

Warrant arrest: 8:50 a.m., 11500 N.E. 128th St. A 22-year-old Kirkland man was stopped for talking on his cell phone while driving. The man was subsequently arrested on his Kirkland Police Department warrant for driving with a suspended license.

Traffic: 5 a.m., 8200 124th Ave. N.E. A 49-year-old man was stopped for speeding and refused a blood alcohol test. The man was arrested for DUI and submitted a reading of .064.

July 1

Stolen property: 7:20 p.m., 52 Lakeshore Plaza. A man left his bike near his vehicle while he was inside his business. After reviewing his video surveillance he observed a suspect ride off with the bike. The victim followed the suspect and contacted police. The bike was recovered and the suspect arrested for possession of stolen property.

Marijuana: 10:49 p.m., 11700 block of N.E. 100th Street. An 18-year-old Bellevue man was arrested via citation after being contacted for being in Spinney Homestead Park after hours. Two presumptive marijuana bags were discovered along with a glass pipe.

Malicious mischief: 12:25 a.m., 15 Lake Street. A 21-year-old Bothell man was arrested for malicious mischief after he became irritated by having to show ID at the Lake Street Grill and punched a wall.
