An intersection that has caused a number of collisions at the Kirkland and Kenmore border is being converted to a four-way stop, in a project from the city of Kirkland.
The 84th Avenue Northeast intersection with Northeast 145th Street will be transformed to a four way, helping to reduce the number of collisions.
Kirkland will replace pedestrian warning signs with stop signs and “All-Way” plaques, as well as a “traffic revision ahead” sign at each intersaction to warn drivers of the changes. These will all be installed by December.
In the spring of 2021, city workers will return to modify the intersection’s center lines, stop bars and crosswalks, as part of its 2021 striping program.
City staff say this is a long anticipated improvement both Kirkland and Kenmore residents have been waiting for. The city’s maintenance workers will be there 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday until Dec. 4. Drivers should anticipate minor delays at the intersection during those hours.
