The closure of 120th Avenue NE in Totem Lake has been delayed until March 6. The street was to begin its five-to-eight month closure on Feb. 27 but it has been pushed back to make sure that there is enough signage in the area to warn commuters about the detour.
The City of Kirkland granted authorization for the street o close during construction associated with the Village at Totem Lake project.
The closure allows for the installation of new water and sewer utility mains through the roadway and complete reconstruction of the street. The road will be rebuilt into a pedestrian-friendly area with new amenities including wide sidewalks, landscaping, and a cycle track that is separated from the roadway. A rendering of the finished street is available on the City of Kirkland website.
The road will be closed from Totem Lake Way to the northernmost driveway to Trader Joe’s. Drivers will need to use alternate routes to travel through the area. Northbound traffic is being routed along Totem Lake Boulevard. Southbound traffic is being routed west on NE 128th St to 116th Ave NE. All businesses to the north and south of the closure on 120th Ave NE will be open and accessible throughout construction.
More information about development activity at Totem Lake Mall can be found on the City of Kirkland website.
