Marshbank Construction will begin transforming Park Lane into a greener, more walkable and vibrant corridor next week. To prepare residents, property-managers and business-operators for what that will mean, the city of Kirkland is hosting a pair of open houses Jan. 8 at the Kirkland Public Library.

The first session will take place from 10-11 a.m. The second session be from 6-7:30 p.m. The Library is located at 308 Kirkland Avenue.

During the open house, residents, property-managers and business-operators will have the opportunity to engage with project staff, explore the ultimate vision for Park Lane and get a look at how Marshbank will sequence its construction phases.

Earlier that same week, Puget Sound Energy will start relocating its gas and power lines, which runs down the middle of the street. The work should last one week and will require Puget Sound Energy’s contractors to excavate a few trenches in and near Park Lane.

Kirkland’s Park Lane contractor, Marshbank will likely begin construction on the Park Lane project before Puget Sound Energy is finished with its gas line and power line relocation. One of the early tasks on Marshbank’s list is repainting the Lake Street and Central Way parking lot to allow vehicles to circulate within the parking lot. The current configuration forces vehicles to exit onto Park Lane once they’ve looped through the parking lot.

Marshbank will also be preparing to close the street next week and mobilizing construction equipment.
