It didn’t take long for police to track down an assault suspect after reaching out to the public late last week.

The Kirkland Police Department (KPD) released a statement on Oct. 6 describing the suspect in a violent assault on Sept. 19 near a downtown Kirkland bar that left another man with severe injuries to his head and face.

The suspect was in custody on Oct. 7.

“Once [the release] was put out, we immediate got hits on it with pictures and info on the suspect,” KPD Lt. Rob Saloum said. “We very quickly knew who that person was.”

What appeared to begin as a playful exchange quickly became a violent attack.

The suspect knocked the victim to the ground with a hard punch to the face, according to the initial release, and was later seen getting into a taxi and leaving the area.

Video shows the suspect continuing to hit the victim in the face with his fists, even after the victim was pinned to the ground.

The department reached out to Crime Stoppers and Washington’s Most Wanted, and a cash reward of up to $1,000 was offered for information leading to an arrest and charges.
