Burglary suspect arrested after threatening brother with hatchet

Police arrested a suspect Thursday morning after he used a hatchet to break in to his brother’s home and threatened the occupants with the hatchet.

At 3:15 a.m., the suspect broke into the family residence in the 13100 block of 107th Pl. N.E. of Kirkland. After he threatened his brother and other occupants with the hatchet, the victims retreated to a bedroom and locked themselves inside.

The suspect fled the residence and a Kirkland Police Department patrol officer spotted him driving on I-405. The officer attempted to pull the suspect over, however he did not stop and a pursuit ensued with speeds not exceeding 60 miles per hour. The pursuit went south on I-405, continued west on SR 520 and then south on I-5 to the West Seattle Freeway.

Clyde Hill Police Department, Washington State Patrol and Seattle Police Department assisted KPD in the pursuit. After the suspect exited the freeway, Washington State Patrol stopped him on Sixth Avenue South in Seattle. The suspect was taken into custody and was booked into the Kirkland Municipal Jail on numerous felony charges. No one was injured at the victims’ home, or during the pursuit of the suspect’s vehicle. KPD detectives are conducting follow up regarding this incident.
