A man was arrested Saturday after allegedly attempting to take a young girl from a very busy Marina Park in Kirkland while her family was just yards away.

“The girl is fine and the mother is probably more shook up than the daughter at this point,” Kirkland Police Sgt. Rob Saloum said.

The 26-year-old man approached the 10-year-old girl, a friend and a teenage acquaintance just before 6 p.m. on Saturday. The man allegedly asked the girl a question and then grabbed her. The teenage acquaintance and family friend noticed what was going on and came to the girls aid. A small scuffle occurred according to Kirkland police before the man gave up and left the park on foot.

The family contacted police and the man was found and arrested a few blocks from the park.

“When he was taken into custody he didn’t want to speak with us,” said Saloum.

The man refused to cooperate with law enforcement and gave no motive for his actions.

The man was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping but according to police he will most likely face assault charges. Police are investigating whether the man has any mental health issues.
