AAUW honors STEM scholars from Lake Washington School District high schools

Ten outstanding students from Lake Washington, BEST, Juanita and Redmond high schools gathered with family and friends at a reception at the Lake Washington School District Administration Building in Redmond April 15 to accept accolades from the Kirkland-Redmond Branch of AAUW.

Ten outstanding students from Lake Washington, BEST, Juanita and Redmond high schools gathered with family and friends at a reception at the Lake Washington School District Administration Building in Redmond April 15 to accept accolades from the Kirkland-Redmond Branch of AAUW. Altogether, 11 girls were chosen by their schools as the outstanding female student in science, technology or math. AAUW supports women and girls in equitable education and career opportunities, especially encouraging them in STEM fields through the Expanding Your Horizons Career Conferences and the HS STEM Scholars Program.

Lake Washington students who were recognized include: Samantha Brender, technology; Grant Jenkins, math; and Mary Jones, science. BEST students include: Jessica Gutierrez, math; Ali Telkamp, science. Juanita: Bonnie Gilbery, math; Stephanie King, technology; and Hannah Skurnik, science. Redmond: Briana Gahler, technology; Stephanie Hsieh, science; and Devin McMahon, math.
