Opera, musical theatre coming again to Calabrisella

The second outing of marvelous music making from the worlds of opera and musical theatre arrives at the Calabrisella Ristorante Italiano in the New Year. On Jan. 10, two one-hour shows of dinner/musical theatre will be performed by talented professional singers and musicians, drawing on songs and arias from such fare as “South Pacific,” “My Fair Lady,” “Westside Story,” “Marriage of Figaro” (Mozart), “La Traviata” (Verdi), “Elixer of Love” (Donizetti), “Barber of Seville” (Rossini) and other works.

Featured on the program of Italian arias, duets and musical theatre selections are Northwest District Opera artists Megan Chenovick, Rebekah McHugh and Sara Fletcher (sopranos), and Daniel Dakden, John Rutherford and Ryan Bede (bass, tenor, baritone). The show is produced by Dick Engstrom, executive board member of the Seattle Opera Guild.

Robin Maiers, house piano player and promoter of the monthly musical event, is looking forward to an ever-expanding and changing repertoire and the eventual anchoring of an accessible venue at the restaurant, showcasing up-and-coming newcomers and seasoned professionals.

Two shows are planned: 5:30 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. Jan. 10 at Calabrisella, located at 132 Lake St., Kirkland. It is strongly recommended that patrons arrive 15 minutes early for smooth and comfortable seating and dinner ordering. Call for reservations at 425-822-7350.
