Nrityalaya Dance, a Seattle-based Indian Classical Dance school, is presenting a show on the concept of “DHARMA” – righteousness, at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on June 9 at Lake Washington High School Theater in Kirkland.

The title of the show is “Dharmo Rakshathi Rakshithaha,” which translates to “Righteousness protects those who protect it.” The theme of the show is, “be truthful to who you are and what you do.” The show will be presented in Indian Classical Dance form Bharathanatyam.

The dance comprises of a few stories from Hindu sacred texts and relates it to the current times and how the lack of adherence to Dharma influenced by Atheism, ego, addiction, corruption, over mining, de-forestation, and pollution has effects on the environment and earth, causing calamities and death.

According to Vidya, director of the school and Cchoreographer of the dance show, it is important for the audience to understand the essence of the show as they act as the carriers of the message to future generations.

Vidya strongly feels that culture plays a defining role in shaping young minds and in a complex time like now, reemphasizing the fundamental values is imperative.

Nrityalaya Dance school was founded in greater Seattle Area in 2002 by Vidyalakshmi Vinod. This production comprises of about 30 dancers whose ages range from seven to adult, complimented with 25 years of combined dance experience of the top three principal dancers.
