LWSD invites public to review HIV/AIDS prevention curriculum

Lake Washington School District (LWSD) invites the public to review and comment on HIV/AIDS prevention education lessons being considered for grades 5-12.

These materials are being considered for adoption. If approved by the district’s board of directors, the materials will be available for use in the 2017-18 school year.

The lessons being recommended are:

· KNOW HIV/AIDS Prevention Education Lessons developed by Washington State’s Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) for grades 5-8

· Family Life and Sexual Health Education Lessons developed by King County Public Health for grades 9-12

LWSD curriculum review committees evaluated curricula and narrowed finalist choices. The district’s instructional materials committee is also reviewing the committee recommendations.

Materials will be on display at the LWSD Resource Center, 16250 N.E. 74th St. in Redmond, through June 16. There is an opportunity to give written feedback.
