The fall season is days away and leaves will soon be blanketing yards. If you’re not sure what to do with all those leave, learn how to compost them. Attend a free workshop and learn how to make a hot compost pile using material from your own yard. Weeds, leaves and vegetable vines can be recycled and put back on your landscape as compost.

Learn from the experts at Seattle Tilth how to set up a worm bin and construct a food digester that makes compost from kitchen and garden waste. The workshop will be held at 6 p.m. on Sept. 25 at the city of Kirkland Maintenance Center at 915 8th Street in Kirkland.

Each attendee who completes the workshop will have the opportunity to win one of 15 free recycler compost bins manufactured by Beaver State Plastics, courtesy of the city of Kirkland and the Washington State Department of Ecology.

Attendees are encouraged to make sure that they have the ability to transport a free compost bin home after the workshop (size: 27-inches in diameter, by 36-inches high with 12 cubic feet capacity).
