International Community School music students place first in woodwind ensemble

International Community School students were recently awarded first place in the small woodwind ensemble division for their outstanding performance at the WMEA 2010 Solo & Ensemble State finals.

International Community School students were recently awarded first place in the small woodwind ensemble division for their outstanding performance at the WMEA 2010 Solo & Ensemble State finals.

The following students won first place for contrasts trio: Bryan Djunaedi, violin; Dorris Hwang, piano; and Bill Zorn, clarinet.

Additionally, Bill Zorn won third place in the clarinet solo division. Nalini Krishnan (soprano) and Irene Chen (piano) also competed in the state competition, with Nalini receiving a composite superior rating.

The state competition was held April 23-24 at Central Washington University. Students qualify to compete in the state finals by winning first place in their respective divisions at the regional competition held in February. This event provides the opportunity for the finest of Washington’s high school music students to hear each other in a competitive situation.
