EvergreenHealth honored with quality achievement awards from American Stroke Association for third consecutive year

For the third consecutive year, EvergreenHealth earned the American Stroke Association’s (ASA) Get With The Guidelines – Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award for its high standards in stroke care that surpass nationally accepted, evidence-based treatment standards for patient care and outcomes.

Hospitals that achieve gold status through the ASA’s Get With The Guidelines program successfully demonstrate exceptional performance, for at least 24 consecutive months, across several key quality measures that are proven to improve patient outcomes.

“Delivering high quality stroke care requires teamwork and we’re proud to recognize the providers, staff and volunteers, in addition to our EMTs and fire departments, whose commitment to collaboration continually improves outcomes for patients during their most critical times,” said EvergreenHealth CEO Bob Malte in a press release.

In addition to the Quality Achievement Award, EvergreenHealth was recognized on ASA’s Target: Stroke Elite Plus Honor Roll. This honor is given to health systems for meeting stroke quality measures that reduce the time between a patient’s arrival at the hospital and treatment with the clot-buster tPA, the only FDA-approved drug to treat ischemic stroke. When tPA is administered to stroke patients within three hours of the onset of symptoms, the drug may support quicker recovery and reduce the patient’s chance of suffering from a severe disability.

Get With The Guidelines-Stroke is an in-hospital program for improving stroke care by promoting consistent adherence to the latest scientific treatment guidelines, and reports on achievement, quality, reporting, and descriptive measures. Studies have shown that organizations that consistently follow Get With The Guidelines quality improvement measures can reduce patients’ lengths of stay and 30-day readmission rates, and reduce disparity gaps in care.

In 2016, EvergreenHealth’s stroke program was also recognized by HealthGrades with its Stroke Care Excellence Award for the ninth year, ranking it among the top 100 in the nation and the best in Washington for five years.
