Cascade Flute Circle in Kirkland will be hosting Mark Holland on June 7 as he presents an evening of music preceded by a master class for flute players and percussionists.
Holland will be accompanied by percussionist N. Scott Robinson. Together they are “Wind and Fire.” Award-winning artist Holland is considered by many authorities on the Native American flute to be among the top flutists performing and recording today.
Leader and founder of Autumn’s Child, Holland has been called, “the Jimi Hendrix of the Native American flute.” His unique approach and usage of the flute along with his technical skills brings about such comparisons. Holland’s style can be seen as global chamber music; a hybrid of world, jazz, classical and folk styles. Holland showcases the versatility of the Native American flute, creating a new acoustic instrumental fusion, an eclectic sound that is truly one of a kind.
He began his publishing and record label, Cedar n Sage Music in 1997. He has recorded 16 CDs to date. Holland has a B.A. in Music from the University of Missouri where he studied with two members of the Saint Louis Symphony. Holland is known for his unique soulful style of “playing from the heart.” Holland has been a featured artist at the International Native American Flute Association convention in Kent, Ohio as well as many other events.
This program is open to all. There is a $20 suggested donation of $20 for the concert; ticket holders can pay an additional $15 for the master class, or $25 for non-ticket holders. The class will run from 5-6:30 p.m. and the concert will begin at 7:30 p.m.
