Lake Washington School District is asking for $755 million more in tax revenue from struggling families. The district very generously supports education; we value our children and believe in the best education we can provide. But, in return, we ask the school district to make the best possible use of our money.

We have previously passed two bond measures to repair and refurbish schools; we’re still paying for those measures. The district assured us the funds would be enough to repair all of the aging schools and would provide classrooms for 27,000 students. But, instead of repairing buildings, the district tore them down and built new. Would you tear down your house because it needs a few repairs?

Now, the district is telling us it doesn’t even have classrooms for 26,000 students. What massive planning error did they make to promise they could house 27,000 students and now come back to tell us they don’t even have enough classrooms for 26,000?

Last year, the legislature increased school funding by over $1,000 per student or more than $1.4 billion dollars. Why does Lake Washington need even more? Why didn’t Lake Washington keep its promise to voters?

Please support struggling families; hold the district accountable to stop the waste and make wiser use of our limited funds. Vote no on Prop 3; you’ll find it on the back of your ballot.
