Sounds like a tax increase scenario

In her letter on Sept, 15, Barbara Ramey (a member of the Pro Annexation group) bemoans the closing of 132nd Square Park and other King County Parks included in KC Executive Kurt Triplett’s plan. She says this is one more reason to annex the PAA to the City of Kirkland.

“If we annex, we’ll have better services …for about the same tax rates.” Ms. Ramey has apparently not been paying attention to recent Kirkland City Council proposals to cut back on services in their current parks, including the very popular Juanita Bay Park program. How would the City of Kirkland provide services to an additional six parks when they are cutting existing park funding? And Ms. Ramey would have us believe it would be done without raising our taxes. Let’s see, six new parks, which must be maintained by the parks department, patrolled by the police, and as she mentions, a Kirkland requirement to balance the city budget. That sounds like a tax increase scenario to me.
