I would like to personally invite you to strongly consider signing up to volunteer to be a part of the Green Team at this year’s Kirkland Summerfest on Aug. 8-10. The goal of the Green Team is to successfully divert the waste generated during the weekend festival into the three different types of carts: compostables, recyclables and trash. We know we can do this and it is the right thing to do, but we need your help.
I encourage you to sign up for a shift. You are welcome to sign up with a friend and you can work together for a shift, then go out and enjoy all there is to offer during Summerfest. The city of Kirkland will be offering a training session at 5:30 p.m on Friday, Aug. 1 at Kirkland City Hall prior to Summerfest which you are highly encouraged to attend.
To thank you for your time and effort, you will be receiving a cool, green, metal water bottle compliments of the city of Kirkland, a Summerfest T-shirt along with some other goodies. Also, with Google as the main sponsor of the Green Team, they will be providing cool sunglasses and a chance to win a Chromecast.
It is very easy to sign up for a shift and you will see that we need many people for the Green Team to work effectively. So, send this message on to your friends and family and encourage them to sign up as well! Perhaps you could organize a group of people to work in various stations during a shift.
Thank you so very much for considering my request to have you join the Summerfest Green Team. You will be making a big difference.
Nora Carlson, Kirkland
